These are web albums of pictures I took during this trip to Japan.

It’s a clear sunny day today where yesterday’s bad weather seemed never happened. I visited the Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum located at western sub-urban of Tokyo for the Edo and Meiji period buildings relocated here from the greater Tokyo area, and I visited a Japanese garden in the city center before headed to the airport.

West Tokyo before sunrise.

Mt. Fuji at dawn.

The building serving as the entrance and indoor exhibition space of the open-air museum was itself a historical building.

In addition to buildings, a few historical vehicles were also displayed inside the museum.

Traditional rural buildings like this one were gathered at the western part of the open-air museum.

Staffs started fires in the old ways inside the buildings.

The studio of an old photo studio. People could dress up and have their photo taken and developed in film here during weekends.

The western style building by a renowned Germany architect staying in Japan.

Residences of famous people such as this house of a former prime minister were moved to the center are of the open-air museum.

The front gate of the residence complex of a former Marquess family.

The east part of the open-air museum was arranged as a historical main street with stores and hotels opened at both side of the road.

A store that sold cans and soy sauces.

Interior of an historic public bath.

An appliance store with metal and clay appliances in display.

The traditional artificial lake and landscapes in the Japanese garden Rikugien.

The garden in autumn colors.

I was quite surprised that it was raining when I woke up and I was even more surprised when I found Kodokan, a historical school complex at Mito, was being rebuilt from damages during the East Japan Earthquake. I left Mito for Tokyo at noon and I visited Ueno Park and Shinjuku Gyoen in the afternoon.

The remaining sections of the moat of Mito Castle.

The gate of Kodokan with construction fences on both sides of the gate.

The central building of Kodokan was also under repair.

View of a corner of the main building from an opening of the fence.

The cherry grove in the garden of the Kodokan.

The remaining gate of the Mito Castle standing inside a high school.

The western style building of the Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Garden next to the Uneo Park was the residence of the Iwasaki family who founded the Mitsubishi group.

The Japanese style building and garden at the back of the estern style building of the Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Garden.

The Shinobazu Pond of the Ueno Park.

The Kiyomizu Kannondo inside the Ueno Park.

The Japanese garden inside Shinjuku Gyoen.

The lotus pond inside the greenhouse of Shinjuku Gyoen.

Outdoor display of chrysanthemum in three colors marked the autumn in Japan.

There were people taking photos of cherry blossoms inside Shinjuku Gyoen.

There were people taking photos of trees with red leave inside Shinjuku Gyoen.

And there were people drawing trees with yellow leave inside Shinjuku Gyoen.

Early Christmas lighting display near the new south entrance of Shinjuku Station.

View of the west side of Tokyo from my hotel room at 35 floor.

I have been to two of the three famous waterfalls of Japan and two of the three famous gardens of Japan. Both of the remaining ones were at Ibaraki and they were my goals of today.

Hot spring inns on the road to Fukuroda Falls.

Leave of trees on the mountain started turning red.

The tunnel leading to Fukuroda Falls.

The bottom two of the four stages of the Fukuroda Falls, the peaceful one of the three famous falls.

The four stages of the Fukuroda Falls.

Fukuroda Falls from the side.

The suspension bridge connecting the valley.

The quiet Fukuroda Station.

Lake Senbako under bright daylight.

Water fountain display at day time.

One of the gates of Kairakuen Garden. Unlike the other two famous gardens, Kairakuen was a public park with free admission, although admission charges were required for visiting the Japanese building Koubuntei inside the garden.

Cherry blossomed out of season during autumn.

Plums that will blossom during the next spring.

Bamboo grove at a corner of the garden.

The carved stone marking this natural spring seemed very out of place to me.

The Room of Cherry in the Koubuntei inside the garden.

The Japanese garden of Koubuntei.

View from the second floor balcony of Koubuntei.

Lakeshore trails surrounded Lake Senbako.

Rainbow reflected by the mists of the water fountain.

Lake Senbako at dusk.

Sunset at Lake Senbako.
