The weather was not great when we went north from the Silicon Valley, so we decided to drive south to visit Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and sections of Highway 1 south from there today. It turned out the weather we encountered was also foggy for the most part of the day.

The Spanish colonial style Monterey Visitor Center.

A restaurant housed in a former cannery.

Facade of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. After knowing that I have already visited the aquarium twice, my colleagues decided to skip this place.

The ocean was also rough today, and we were wondering how it was named Pacific.

But there were plenty of people enjoying the waves.

The Bird Rock of the 17 Mile Drive was much clearer then I remembered.

Holiday houses next to the 17 Mile Drive.

The long cypress near the end of the 17 Mile Drive.

Houses in the residential area of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Inns adjacent to the main street of Carmel-by-the-Sea .

We were finally able to enjoy sunshine and blue sky at Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Rock formations and rough ocean along Highway 1.

Rock arch formed through years of erosion.

Spectacular cliffs and arch bridge along Highway 1.
